One of the greatest mysteries that has perplexed mankind for thousands of years has been the origin of the universe. You cannot help to be in awe and wonder as you look upon the thousands of stars, planets and other cosmological wonders (i.e. meteors, comets, super nova, etc.) on a clear and moonless night. On that point, I’ll never forget the trip I took out to New Mexico earlier in my life, where upon my return trip home, I over-nighted off interstate 40 on a dark country road. Without the preponderance of background city lights and a humid atmosphere which contains a percentage of polluted air (known as smog), the crystal clear night revealed a dazzling display of not just thousands of stars, but what appeared to be millions of cosmological wonders. Never had I seen with such clarity the incredible beauty and vastness of the universe within our Milky Way galaxy. That night I could understand why man would question how it all came about. No doubt, there are those when seeing such magnificence, grandeur and display are immediately convinced that a supernatural being, God as He is commonly called, could be the only one Who could craft something so incredible, grand and magnificent. Yet there are many, even today, that believe our universe simply came about by physical and mechanical processes not needing a supernatural creator or beginner.  Let’s see if this could be true.

 

I can still remember sitting in the 7th grade when my junior high science teacher, Mr. Jeurnig, told our class that the universe was infinite and time eternal. I’m sure he based his assertions on the latest and most popular scientific information at the time. Wanting to be a “good” student, I made sure to believe him so I could pass tomorrow’s exam and graduate to the next class. I also remember another statement he made, “that matter cannot be created nor destroyed”. The importance of this statement will come into play a little later in our discussion.

 

Even years later, while taking a physics course in college, the latest research and scientific discoveries were increasingly proving that the universe was a created entity. Sadly, this information was not readily revealed nor acknowledged. Much like the time it takes to turn a mighty ship in a new direction, this new information was eventually revealed, although very slowly to the public. From it, great numbers of astrophysicists could not refute the proof any longer that the universe and the time we live are in fact created entities. For example, astrophysicist George Smoot who headed up the Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) project exclaimed….”It’s like we are looking at God” when data came in to confirm the existence of background radiation that supported the Big Bang Theory. Even George Greenstein, both a noted astronomer and atheist at the time, would later proclaim……”As we survey the evidence, the thought that some supernatural agency, or rather ‘Agency’, must be involved.” (1)

 

Today, the largest group of scientists who believe in God are astrophysicists. This group, astrophysicists and astronomers, supercede those who comprise other scientific disciplines in believing there has to be a “Creator” of our cosmos because of the overwhelming evidence they’ve been presented in their prospective field of study. With serious investigation into the hard scientific proof and evidence that has recently come forth, they can no longer refute the supernatural basis of exquisite design that is so needed for our universe to have developed into what we see this day.  

 

 

Surprisingly, ancient astronomers originally believed the universe was finite both in the physical realm as well as in age, meaning it had a beginning and an  end.  However, not all agreed. For example, Indian astronomers believed the universe arose from a non-personal spirit or power.  Their universe would then proceed thru an infinite number of cycles, with the end of each cycle characterized by every particle that constituted the universe reverting back to its primordial state of “pure waters”.  Then the cycle would repeat again.  We find that this theory embraces the concept of reincarnation, a primary tenant of Hinduism.(2)  Interestingly, secular cosmologists in the early 1900’s came up with the “Oscillating Universe” theory which was very similar to the Indian one.  However, recent proof for the origin of the universe has handily debunked both the “Oscillating Universe” and Indian derived one.   

 

It is not the scope of this chapter to present a complete history of cosmic models that have been conceived throughout history, however interesting it is.  I would highly recommend you read the 2018 fourth edition of The Creator and the Cosmos by Dr. Hugh Ross, who covers the history of different cosmological models extensively, including the highly controversial multiverse.  But it would be unfitting not to provide a short look at the evolution of major astronomical advances.  For example, it’s quite interesting to read that the Greek astronomer Anaximander as early as the 7th century B.C. (that’s over 2,700 years ago) concluded that the earth could not be flat.  Instead he believed the earth to be a sphere floating freely within a sky of stars.  He came to this conclusion when his teacher (Thales according to tradition) noted that while the Big Dipper constellation never dropped below the horizon in Greece, it did so in Egypt.  What is so unique about this discovery is that cultures in medieval Europe up to the time of Columbus still believed the earth was flat!  Many taunted Columbus in his desire in finding the New World because they warned he would quickly fall of the face of the earth before getting there.  This certainly shows the persistence of mankind to hold on to tradition and conventional wisdom for the sake of dogma or maintaining the status quo.  In this case, it took over 2,000 years for the flat earth society to find their demise.  Incidentally, it was the Holy Bible that stated, “It is He (God) that sits above the circle of the earth” in Isaiah 40:22 of the Old Testament that declared the earth to be round well before man and his scientific observations could ever prove this true.  Isaiah the prophet lived over 2,800 years ago, well 100 years before Anaximander.

 

For the most part, it was not until the advent of the printing press by Johannes Gutenberg in 1456 that an explosion of learning evolved that has been sustained to this day.  This explosion first came to Nicolas Copernicus, who between 1491 and 1506 re-introduced the heliocentric theory (that the sun is the center of our solar system, not the earth) as advanced initially by the Greeks.  It is again worthy to note that it took nearly 2,200 years for mankind to acknowledge that the earth was round as initially expressed by Anaximander.  This most certainly seems to point that we don’t always evolve into higher intelligent beings. When Galileo also came on board to support the heliocentric theory which Copernicus re-introduced, a new wave of astronomers came forth to argue against the dogma of the day that the earth was the center of the universe.(3)  Astronomy finally was going in the right direction.

 

   

In the late 16th century, observational astronomy was reborn through Tycho Brahe (1546-1601), who devoted his entire adult life to making precise measurements of the stars and planets and their positions.  In the last year of his work, Tycho challenged his assistant, Johannes Kepler, to solve the problem of planetary motion.  Using Tycho’s copious data, Kepler derived three laws of planetary motion (published between 1609 – 1619) which enabled Sir Isaac Newton to formulate his laws of motion and universal gravitation (1687).  Subsequent observations of stellar systems substantiated the pervasive validity of Newton’s laws and indicated a size for the universe much more vast than any imagined by ancient astronomers.(4)

 

This set into motion the modern study of cosmology. Toward the end of the 19th century, evidence against the infinite universe model was accumulating but receiving little or no attention.  It wasn’t until Einstein introduced his thesis of Special Relativity in 1905 that laid the foundation for his further work best known as General Relativity.  General Relativity mathematically demonstrated that the universe was initially decelerating (losing speed) immediately after the Big Bang event while at some future point in time began expanding.  Taken together, deceleration and expansion imply that the universe is a finite entity.  Taken even further, this establishes that the universe has an origin and a beginning.  Moreover, it strongly infers that a causal agent, or rather “Creator”, was responsible for it all.(5)

 

As Albert Einstein introduced the theory of Special Relativity to the world, physicists were astounded by the major thesis of his work indicating matter and energy are convertible.  It was this discovery that gave Einstein worldwide recognition with his famous equation, E=mc2.  Recall, I had mentioned earlier that my 7th grade teacher stated that matter cannot be created nor destroyed within its own domain (within the dimensional realm we live in).  Obviously, from this statement one might ask, where did all the energy and matter constituting our universe come from?  Einstein’s investigation revealed that the origin of matter and energy constituting the universe had to evolve from a creation point or singularity as it is often called.  Based on his mathematical model, there could be no other choice.  And for most scientists this meant there had to be a Creator, a “Being” who lived not only in our dimension but also other dimensions. Only an extra-dimensional God could accomplish the feat of creating our universe out of nothing, “ex-nihilo”.

 

In 1915, Einstein extended his thesis of Special Relativity which primarily dealt with velocity effects to a more comprehensive analysis of the acceleration effects between observers which he called General Relativity.  Believed to be comprehensible by only the most brilliant scientists, this work introduced the world to what we euphemistically today call “time travel”.  As much as I would like to describe these effects in detail, we are limited in the constraints of keeping this book on track and reasonable size.  But let me at least explain the essence of this theory to satisfy your curiosity as it did mine.  Let’s say there was a person with a flashlight traveling on a high speed jet traveling at 600 miles/hour.  The light emanating from the flashlight would travel at the speed of light, approximately 186,000 miles/second.  However if you, as an observer, saw this jet pass by, with Newtonian physics you would calculate not only the speed of light, but also have to add the speed of the jet the person is traveling in to compute the total velocity rate.  Yet, from an electromagnetic perspective, James Clark Maxwell’s equations states that the light from the flashlight always travels at the speed of light for both the observer and the individual in the jet.  In other words, the speed of light cannot surpass 186,000 miles/sec., even if it’s coming from a jet traveling an additional 600 mi/hour.  This paradox was what Einstein sought to solve.  Eventually, it was his equations of General Relativity that solved the issue.  Therefore, in General Relativity, the Newtonian concept of space and time being distinct and absolute gave way to a dynamic melding called the space-time complex.  And it is this melding that gives space time interactions between one traveling near the speed of light and a stationary observer some interesting features.  For example, the faster one moves through space (distance), the slower it moves through time.  Additionally, the presence of mass and energy warps space-time, causing time to run more slowly for the observer.(7)  Hence, when an astronaut travels near the speed of light and then returns to earth, it appears he has hardly aged compared to those he left many years ago who are substantially older.  To our natural minds, this appears absurd.  Yet, mathematical analysis through General Relativity proves this true.  For many years there did not exist sufficient travel velocities and precise enough time measuring devices to prove the mathematics correct, until 1980.  At that time, tests performed by a hydrogen maser clock (100 times more precise than the best atomic clock) on board the Space Shuttle were able to verify the mathematics.  When the two hydrogen maser clocks were compared (one left on the earth and the one brought up with the space shuttle), the earth maser clock indicated a greater time length had elapsed.  No doubt, the astronaut who conducted this experiment was thankful his wife had not aged 40 years (or older) when he returned back to earth. 

 

The first data that helped prove General Relativity took place during a May 1919 total solar eclipse of the sun.  During the eclipse, British astronomer and mathematician Arthur Eddington and his colleges determined that starlight was bent by the sun’s gravitational field by 1.8 +/- 0.2 arcseconds (one arcsecond is 1/3,600th of a degree).  Einstein’s theory calculated a bend of 1.751 arcseconds.   As can be seen, the specific 1.751 arcseconds easily fits in the observable range of 1.8 +/- 0.2 arcseconds based on the +/- 0.2 degree of error which Eddington used.  We have to realize that Eddington’s measuring equipment was most likely rudimentary at best, the reason for the fairly large degree of error.(8)   Yet, the atomic maser clock test performed on the Space Shuttle mentioned earlier verified the theory of General Relativity to within five places of the decimal (i.e. 0.00001), thereby moving this theory to solid scientific law.  Only when scientific theories or hypotheses can be proven by the rigors of laboratory testing and hard data, can they be reclassified as scientific law.

 

This gave mankind and the study of cosmology two extremely important discoveries.  First, it confirmed that the Law of General Relativity was the only valid mathematical model of how our universe functions.  Secondly, it supported Einstein’s belief that the universe was brought into existence by way of a singular event, known as the “Big Bang” event or singularity as it is otherwise known.  The “Big Bang” event proposes that all matter and energy contained in the universe began at a single point and finite time frame.  As we mentioned earlier, prior to Einstein’s assertions and proof thereof, most astronomers for nearly 2,600 years believed the universe was infinite and time eternal.  Naturally the public believed in the science of its day and agreed with the scientists who proposed these theories.  Moreover many religious holy books were in agreement with this hypothesis as well, except one, the Holy Bible.  The Bible states that our universe is not infinite nor time eternal.  Instead it made the bold claim that both time and the universe are created and finite, meaning they both have a beginning and an eventual end.

 

 

What many people do not know is that Einstein wanted to initially reject the notion of his “Big Bang” theory for the beginning of the universe.  Why?  Because he wanted to refute the implications of a Creator having brought it all about.  In fact, it had been reported that Einstein openly fumed over the implications of the universe’s beginning point.  Arthur Eddington also was agitated as were most non-believing astronomers at the turn of the century.  So serious was this situation, that Einstein actually contrived a cosmological constant which for all practical purposes was a “fudge factor” to stop the expansion of the cosmos (at the time he had no observational evidence that the universe underwent expansion).  

 

Einstein was prepared to pay a high price to avoid facing an origin for the universe.  His cosmological constant involved a repulsive force constant that flew in the face of established realities.  Probably the most noted was that his “cosmological constant” used a repulsive force between two bodies that would enlarge with increasing separation.  One doesn’t even need to be an astrophysicist to realize this flies in the face of the law of gravity where two bodies becoming increasingly attracted to each other the closer they get to each other (however his work gave recognition to the future observation of dark energy).  Upon introspection, most astronomers handedly rejected Einstein’s cosmological constant.  In 1929, astronomer Edwin Hubble made the astute observation that the velocities of nearly all galaxies were a result from the expansion of the universe.  Incredibly, it wasn’t until 1931 following the publications of Edwin Hubble’s law of redshifts (the very criteria Hubble used to realize galaxies were moving away from each other) that Einstein discarded his cosmological constant from his field equations.  He later conceded that it was the “greatest mistake of his life”.   

 

According to Einstein’s journal writings, he wrestled with two major obstacles in a belief for God.  First, he had a bitterness toward the clergy, particular towards priests in general.  As a Jew, this would not be surprising from the anti-Semitism that even the Christian religion was expressing at that time.  Secondly, he wrestled over the paradox of God’s omnipotence and man’s responsibility for his choices.(9)  For example, why would God allow a murderer to kill innocent children let alone 6 million Jews during the Holocaust?  Isn’t God powerful enough to stop such evil?  I’m sure even the most devout have asked the Lord this very question at some time in their life.  I know I have.  Yet, I haven’t heard from Him directly on this matter.  But I have been given His word as written in the Bible when Jesus responded to a man who He asked not to call Him (Jesus) good because only the Father (God) is good (Matt 19:17).  Moreover, it should be very evident from all the evil taking place in the world that there does exist an evil being, named Satan, who is leader of the all the demons in the kingdom of hell whose sole purpose is to kill, steal and destroy (John 10:10) as stated in the Bible.  It is only in realizing that God operates in extra-dimensional capacities can the paradox between good and evil be resolved.  Yet these realms cannot be easily understood, explained or visualized.  That’s because we only perceive in 4 dimensions, the very ones we exist in.  We will take a look at the concept of extra-dimensionality a little later which will hopefully explain some of these paradoxes.

 

Einstein eventually gave begrudging acceptance to the necessity for a beginning and eventually to the presence of a superior power, but did not accept the doctrine or belief in a personal God.  Therefore, Einstein never believed in the personal God whose main desire is to reconcile man to Himself initially thru the Old Testament system of laws and sacrifices, and later through Jesus Christ as the ultimate One who paid for the cost of our sin. He became like one who believed in the God of Spinoza (see text box). It is with agreement and understanding that sin separates us from God.  And all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.  Only through the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ which took place on the Cross and our belief in Him can we establish a relationship of indescribable love within the Trinity.  Despite the obsession of many scientists – and even some theologians – to avoid the dramatic conclusion of an expanding universe, no other theory had ever been put forward to account for this expansion.  Ultimately, the discovery of the red shift phenomena by Edwin Hubble was able to confirm that spectral lines of galaxies of all types and at all distances from each other indicate a waveshift toward the red according to the law of redshifts, as mentioned previously.  This is prima facia evidence that our cosmos is expanding.  Why?  Because the identity of a redshift is based on a “moving” universe, whether expanding or contracting.(10) 

 

It was not until the 1960’s that more than a dozen proofs had matured to verify the expansion of the universe according to some kind of hot “Big Bang” model.  This easily was able to disqualify the hesitation, steady state, oscillating and most all varients of conjectured cosmos models.

 

A clarification needs to be made about the “Big Bang” model.  The expression “Big Bang” gives the impression of a devastating bomb blast causing great disorder.  However as analyzed by astrophysicists, the mathematics and models indicate this singularity was immensely powerful yet entailed a carefully planned and controlled release of matter, energy, space and time within the strict confines of fine tuned physical constants and laws.  Despite opposition of the “Big Bang” model over the years, continuing evidence and scientific data suggest it more definitive then ever.(12)  Sadly, the title does not do justice to explain this organized creation entity which only a God of the Bible could orchestrate.

 

 

In 1965 yet another incredible discovery was made regarding the state of our universe.  Robert Wilson and Arno Penzias of Bell Laboratories discovered that there existed a uniform level of radiation throughout the universe, later identified as background radiation.  Its existence was earlier confirmed by the independent mathematical calculations of Robert Dicke and James Peebles who predicted that radiation left over from the Big Bang event would be observable within the wavelength in which Wilson and Penzias had found this radiation.

 

As so many scientific discoveries are made, many occur by happenstance.  Wilson and Penzias were intending to measure radio emissions from our galaxy.  However while doing so, received through their antenna temperature readings a wavelength signature of slightly above 3 degrees Kelvin.  The Kelvin temperature scale begins at absolute zero which is considered the lowest temperature achievable in the universe.  It relates to centigrade such that at 0 degrees centigrade (freezing point of water), Kelvin temperature would equal 273.15 degrees.  The excess temperature of a little over 3 degrees was found throughout the universe and did not vary with time of day, year or direction.   It was constant.  It was determined that background radiation was the resultant after-effect of the primordial cosmic beginning of our universe.  This was another important discovery.  It gave further confirmation and support for the Big Bang event.  As Einstein’s solutions of General Relativity proved the Big Bang and Hubble’s discovery of galaxy expansion correct, this discovery only further confirmed these truths.(13) 

 

 

The implications that the universe was created brought scientists to the next most important question they wanted an answer to.  If the cosmos was created, is time created?  If it could be proven that time was created, then there would be no question that our universe was brought into existence through a transcendent Creator.  Because for something to be created, you need a Creator or Beginner.  This follows with one of the most basic laws in physics, the 1st law of Thermodynamics which states that matter cannot be created nor destroyed within its own system as expressed earlier.  In fact, the creation of our cosmos by the Big Bang model specifies it is an open system under control and influence by another system, shown to be God in this case.  The next question to be answered therefore: Is there a beginning and creation of time that coincided with the creation of our universe at the very same moment?  

 

In 1966, one year after cosmic background radiation was discovered by Wilson and Penzias, three of the world’s leading astrophysicists; Stephen Hawking, Roger Penrose and George Ellis embarked on a most complex journey into the deepest areas of mathematics to determine whether there was an origin to space and time as proposed by Einstein’s Solutions of General Relativity.  After four years of research, these men published a position paper in 1970 which asserted that not only was there a beginning of matter and energy as Einstein claimed, but also of time in which this matter and energy works in.  In other words, their research proved by mathematical calculations that both space (our universe) and time were all created in one instant which we call the singularity or Big Bang Event.  This new discovery was the proverbial icing on the cake.  It ultimately brought scientists and the whole world face to face with the mathematical proof that the cosmos and time are created entities as 2 Timothy 1:9 so well expresses, “The grace of God that we now experience was put into effect before the beginning of time.”

 

 

Then in 1985 another incredible discovery of observational data was made that proved the assertions of Hawking, Penrose and Ellis correct, much in the same way that the space shuttle tests and cosmic background radiation proved the theories of Einstein correct. The work of Hawking, Penrose and Ellis concluded that there had to exist a heretofore unknown class of sub-atomic particles generated by the collapse of space-time dimensions in the most early stages of the singularity (i.e. Big Bang). In 1985 scientists found these sub-atomic particles, again confirming their theoretical assertions correct. They deduced that these particles were produced 10-34 second after the initiation of the singularity, literally at the very moment of creation, where at least nine dimensions of space and time had to exist.  Through the collapse of five of the nine space-time dimensions, the universe established itself into four dimensions that we have today between 10 to the minus 34th (10-34) and 10 to the minus 43th (10-43) seconds.  One has to be in awe regarding the infinitesimally small value that 10-34 looks like – 0.0000000000000000000000000000000001. During this incredibly minute time frame, the five space-time dimensions collapsed into infinitely small circles and consequently produced these sub-atomic particles that are observable only through a particle accelerator. At last, both the mathematics and the observed raw data now prove that there had to be a supernatural Beginner, or simply God, that not only brought forth our universe into existence, but time as well.  Then in January of 1993 new information from the COBE satellite, known as the Cosmic Background Explorer, has been able to support the reality of the Big Bang event by making precise temperature measurements throughout the observable universe. This instrument has shown that 99.97 percent of the radiant energy of the universe was released within the first year after the primeval explosion took place. It also proved that our universe is both expanding and decelerating, as Edwin Hubble’s research had already confirmed. Because of this new evidence, many scientists have finally come to the place where they can no longer refute the truth. For example, Paul Davies, a renowned astrophysicist and once avid atheist, states in his book, Super Force, “There is for me powerful evidence that something is going on behind it all, the impression of design is overwhelming.”  In a second book he wrote, God and the New Physics, he stated, “I cannot say no ”God“ because there is so much beauty and elegance in the equations of physics. That enough convinces me (that God exists).(15)  

 

Since the original COBE satellite data, additional tests have been conducted through a multitude of different measuring devices to nail down the proof that Einstein’s General Relativity is the one and only model that described the reality of our cosmos and how it functions.  Significantly more precise data obtained from the WMAP, LAGEOS-1 & 2, LARES and Planck satellites confirmed the original COBE data multiple times over. Moreover, telescopes (both visual and radiation observant) such as the South Pole Telescope, X-ray spectral analysis telescope and the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Observatory (LIGO) has added confirmation upon confirmation to the data. Today, General Relativity has passed over 15 independent experimental tests. To give you some idea how accurately these tests have performed, just the measurements extending throughout 20 years (1974-1993) has confirmed the accuracy of General Relativity overall to an error of no more than one part in a hundred trillion!  In the words of Roger Penrose, the astronomer who was co-author with Stephen Hawking and helped to validate that time is a created entity, “This makes Einstein’s General Relativity, in this particular sense, the most accurately tested theory known to science!”(16) Today, there no longer remains any basis for refuting the veracity of General Relativity for the proof of how our cosmos not only functions, but also its origin.  Since General Relativity accurately describes the dynamics of the universe in all contexts, their space-time theorems can be trusted.  In other words, time really does have a beginning.  If time’s beginning is concurrent with the beginning of the universe, then the cause and “Beginner” of the universe must be some entity able to operate in a time dimension completely independent of and pre-existent to the time dimension that exists in our present universe.  It tells us that the Creator is transcendent, operating beyond the dimensional limits of the universe He created.  It also tells us that the Creator is not the universe itself, nor is He contained only within the confines of our universe.  From this conclusion, pantheism and atheism cannot be true and are therefore are categorically disproven by the scientific data.

 

Pantheism claims there is no existence beyond the universe, that the universe is all there is, and that the universe has always existed. In its simplest form, everything that makes up the universe (including bacteria) is god. Atheism claims that the universe was not created by a Supreme Being (i.e. Creator, God) nor does He exist independent of the matter, energy, and space-time dimensions of the universe.  But all the evidence accumulated in the 20th and 21st centuries tells us that a transcendent Creator must exist. Why? Because all matter, energy, space dimensions and even time had to suddenly and simultaneously come into existence from a source beyond itself.  Not only does the science lead us to these conclusions, but the Bible confirms it.  It is the only holy book to do so.(17)  

 

 

Let us depart somewhat from the more historic and technical aspects that has hereto been presented and consider the unique manner how God operates in the multi-dimensions in which He exists.   As we stated earlier, the production of sub-atomic particles due to the collapse of space-time dimensions prior to 10-37 second during the initiation of our cosmos is proof that God exists in a minimum of nine dimensions in both space and time. Remember, we physically operate in 4 dimensions – three of space and one of time.  This means God has a minimum of 5 additional dimensions in which He can operate.  

 

Let’s take a look at the box represented on the right. If we lived in a world that only had two dimensions (length and width), everything we would see would appear as being flat. There would be no height at all, since this is the only dimension that gives us height. Can you imagine how extremely limited and constrained our world would look like if we only lived in a 2 dimensional space? It almost seems absurd. Because of the added dimension of height that we do live in, our visible realm is magnified on a much greater level. Yet, our minds can’t even begin to grasp what an added space dimension above our three would even look like if we could live in such here on earth.

 

Now, let’s take a look at the one added dimension of time we do live in.  As noted in the diagram to the right, this is actually a rather constrained dimension, as we can only move forward in time.  No going back in time nor going ahead.  We can only move  forward in time as measured in seconds, minutes, hours, days, years and centuries. Consider the next diagram below. We are showing a plane which is a geometric entity of a time line of length and a second time line of width. In its representative form, a plane appears as a sheet of paper but has no end to either it’s length or width, which makes it an infinite entitiy. This is a fairly good definition of how God can exist. He exists at a minimum as a plane of time with two time dimensions. This means He needs no beginning or end. In this condition, He does not even need to be created nor does He ever cease to exist.   Now consider the next box which shows not only the above plane, but numerous time lines upon it.  Our single dimension of time is represented by just one time line. The other time dimensions are represented on the plane in which God exists, infinite and eternal. Just by this example alone we can explain some characteristics about God which otherwise would be extremely difficult to comprehend.  God is able to move about this plane at any location because He comprises the entire plane of time which our one time line exists upon. In fact, because our universe also exists on His plane of time, He knows its beginning and its end. Incredibly, God can move anywhere in the two dimensional plane of time He exists in, whenever He desires. Just this one added dimension of time gives Him the capability of going forward in the future and easily going back in the past as He wills. This is why He knows the end from the beginning and the beginning from the end. In this way He is omnipresent, which is the quality of being present in all places at all times, as given in Psalm 139, verses 7-12. This is how God can easily predict the future which in biblical terms is known as prophecy. In the same way, God can hear and answer the prayers of millions and millions of people at the same time as shown in the next illustration below. God does truly exist in an incredible realm that is difficult for us to imagine, let alone comprehend.    

 

It is for this reason that heaven can be such an incredible and indescribable place. The attributes described by those who have had an opportunity to visit heaven often are far beyond the ability for any human to describe. Those who have been able to go, and return to tell about it, often describe a sense of timelessness in heaven. This would make sense, as God’s kingdom is one which is infinite and eternal, just like He says in the Bible.

 

Therefore, we find that God’s extra-dimensionality is evidenced most certainly in the existence of heaven (and conversely, hell) as well as the Transfiguration, Atonement, Rapture, angels, eternal life, a glorified-spiritual body and so forth. Through the use of extra-dimensionality, God is capable of incredible feats. For example, it is recorded in John 20:19-29 that Jesus visited His disciples after His resurrection. Eight days after His resurrection, Jesus came explicitly for Thomas, who among the disciples is best known for his doubt, from where we get the saying, “doubting Thomas”.  Jesus entered the upper room where they were staying by passing through the walls of this closed room. The room was closed because they were fearful the Jews and Roman soldiers whom crucified Jesus might also take them. After thinking that they were seeing a ghost, Jesus said to Thomas, “See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.”  It is evident that Jesus came in the room without opening the door or windows, thus being perceived as a ghost. By using a minimum of three dimensions of time, it is possible for Jesus to have passed through solid objects that exist in our three space dimensions. And by removing one or more of these dimensions from Himself at will, He is able to convert Himself back to flesh and bones. Simply by adjusting the various dimensions of space and time can unique realities be produced and/or modified. It is evident that God and His Son, Jesus, have the ability to adjust these dimensions at will. In the same way, evidence that sprit beings exist such as angels and demons is also demonstrated by extra-dimensionality. As one reads the New Testament, it is evident that Jesus had numerous encounters with evil spirits that existed upon earth and still do this day.(18)

 

Many people wonder what a glorified body will look like. One only has to look at Jesus in that respect. When Jesus was resurrected by the power of God via the Holy Spirit, Jesus regained all His former dimensionality. When the saints are Raptured, the Bible is clear that those who died prior to that event will first rise to meet Jesus in the clouds.  Who will rise?  It will be the physical bodies of believers who died on earth that will be joined together with their spirit bodies that they received in heaven. Hence, when Jesus comes to Rapture the true Church of Jesus Christ, our spirit beings will be combined with our physical bodies. And as Paul wrote to the church members of Thessalonica in 1 Thessalonians 4: 17, “Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, all in a twinkling of an eye. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.” Yes, with our new glorified bodies. I believe we will be able to convert between a “flesh” body or “spirit” body at will just as Jesus did before Thomas and the others.   And due to new dimensional capabilities, I would not at all be surprised that we will be able to travel back or forward in time just as God is capable of. Indeed, what an incredible new life awaits those who enter heaven after death or are alive when the coming of Jesus occurs in the Rapture. Now we can understand why Paul the Apostle would remark of these things, “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9)

 

One of the greatest difficulties that we humans have is to understand the essence of the Trinity which is composed of God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. How can all three separate entities also be existent as one entity known as the Godhead? One of the best descriptions I have ever heard was that given by Dr. Hugh Ross who used Mr. and Mrs. Flat as an example. Let’s go back to our  two dimensional object and substitute it with a representation of Mr. and Mrs. Flat. Let’s say Mr. and Mrs. Flat are laying in bed almost ready to get up for the day. Remember, both Mr. and Mrs. Flat can only see each other in the two dimensions of length and width.  Hence they would only see each other as a line laying on the bed (remember, they have no height). So we see Mr. and Mrs. Flat laying on their bed as two lines. Let’s say God decides to visit Mr. and Mrs. Flat and extends three of His fingers just past their bedside. Because they can only see in two dimensions, they would observe the three fingers of God as three separate lines assuming there are three distinct beings whom we denote as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. However, Mr. and Mrs. Flat cannot see that God’s three dimensional fingers actually connect to His body which therefore establishes His whole body which we call the Godhead.(20)  Another example that has been used to describe the Godhead is in the different physical states of water. Water can exist in solid form as ice, and liquid form as the water we drink or a vapor, as in steam or water vapor. In this case water is only one substance as God is represented in His Oneness but can manifest in three different states of physical existence. With God, this can be done spiritually as well as physically.

 

 

   In the Gospel of John 14: 6-9, Jesus is speaking with His disciples and addresses a statement that Phillip made in reference to a discussion to the deity of Jesus.  Let’s tune into this discussion.

In this reading, Jesus is telling not only Phillip, but all who read His words in the Bible that He is a representation of Father God. Moreover, the definition of the Trinity and its equivalence to each other is further exemplified in Matthew 28:18 where Jesus claims, “All authority has been give to Me in heaven and on earth.” Because this position was conferred to Jesus by the authority of the Father, it is obvious that Father God is still head of all things. God conferred a part of Himself in that person known as His Son by giving up a part of His extra-dimensionality, thereby becoming like one of us upon our time line. In a very limited manner of explanation, it is as though God became Jesus in the flesh until He was taken back to the Father by way of the resurrection. In this respect, Jesus lowered Himself from His previous Godly position to experience all that mankind does: pain, hunger, temptation, suffering, joy, disappointment, etc.  All except one – SIN.  And it this reason Jesus came to earth.  He came to die on the cross for the atonement of our sin.  He took upon Himself all the sins of every human being to become the ultimate sin-bearer and scapegoat for all our inequity. Only that which is sinless can atone for sin. This is Jesus, Who came to save all mankind. This is why Jesus is the “Way, Truth and the Life” as He so claims. Incidentally, before becoming a believer in Jesus Christ, in almost all instances I was innately aware of the difference between right and wrong.  The Bible describes this knowledge as coming from the Holy Spirit (i.e. spirit of God) identified as the “helper” by Jesus, “Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment (John 18:8, ESV). However, not being born-again into the spirit of God through Jesus Christ, I did not know and most instances did not want to believe what the consequences of sin would bring. Only after being born again did I begin to understand the necessity of a sin-bearer. Probably the best example I could use to describe this was a story I once heard initially given by Dr. Terry Law. I’ve taken this example from my other book, Signs of the Coming Messiah in This Generation. I hope you can appreciate it’s simple yet powerful message.

 

“One day, in the early days of his evangelistic career, Billy Graham was invited to speak at a location in Georgia, over a hundred miles away. That particular day, Dr. Graham was running late, a common problem that besets us all at various times. As he was driving to his destination, time loomed ever closer to his appointment. In response, the closer the gas pedal approached the floorboard of his car. Then he heard a siren. As prescribed, he pulled over to the side of the road whereupon a policeman asked him if he knew how fast he was going. Being a man of God, he told the truth and admitted that he was going over the speed limit. He was then asked to follow the policeman to the home of the Justice. As he entered the Justice’s home, the Justice told Billy Graham that his speeding ticket was going to cost him $30.00. As Dr. Graham went to get his wallet, the policeman said, ‘Wait a minute. I’ve been a follower of your ministry for some time and I will pay the fine for you. I know you realize that payment has to be made for the crime committed.” Then, the policeman paid Billy Graham’s ticket.  And so, Billy Graham continued on to his meeting, knowing that he received a double portion of God’s grace that very day.  Not only did the policeman pay for his crime, but knew that he was also forgiven of all crimes against God by the acceptance of His Son, Jesus Christ. For Jesus is the true Justice of all mankind in that He has paid for all our crimes commonly referred to in the Bible as sin. Billy Graham easily understood that this is exactly what God had done for all mankind. As the policeman stepped in to pay for Billy Graham’s crime of speeding, so too did Jesus pay for our crimes of sin against God.  Jesus’ giving of His life for our sin is truly a gift.”(21)

 

 

When I wrote my initial manuscript for the book, The Evidence is In, I asked the Lord what example I could use in light of His multi-dimensionality to explain being “born-again” into God’s kingdom. This is what came to me.  In using the example of God being like a plane of infinite time, what is our relationship to Him within this realm? Let’s consider this question by using pencil and paper as an example. It is known that the composition of the “lead” of a pencil is actually graphite. This is the substance deposited on the surface on a sheet of paper when we write on it. We know that the graphite of the pencil is made of a totally different type of material or chemical compound than that of the paper itself. In this perspective it is only a physical bond. There does not exist a chemical bond which would produce a new compound that binds the two substances chemically together (intimately like the bond between God and His bride). However, the graphite that resides on the paper is in direct contact with the surface of the paper, thereby forming a very close connection between these two substances. All mankind exists in God’s kingdom which earth is a subset of. God is always trying to connect us with His Son through the Holy Spirit, His angels, other believers in Christ (i.e. evangelists, etc.) or any measure He sees fit. God takes an active role in adopting us into His plane of existence by drawing us near to Him and His Son. If we are willing to believe, He finally seals us with His spirit. In other words, when you truly believe in your heart and mind that God is Who He says He is and that He sent His only Son to redeem you of your sins, you immediately become bonded into Him which is the process of being born again. In a way, it’s as though a chemical reaction takes place between the graphite and the paper so that a whole new substance is created between the two. This new substance would be called being renewed, born-again, converted, transformed or being made a new creation in God. Ultimately, it is our free will that determines whether we will be a Holy Spirit sealed member of God and His kingdom. Because it is God’s will to have us become part of His kingdom, it is His infinite wisdom that He tries to draw us near as given forth in this statement by Jesus…..

 

The above verses signifies two important points. One, it indicates the overwhelming desire of both the Father and His Son to have all mankind believe in Them, so we will all be as one. The other point concerns the concept of the Godhead or Trinity.  The Godhead states that the Father and the Son are One. The words in the above verse claim this, “that all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You.”

 

This coincides with the statement that Jesus makes in John 10:30, “I and the Father are One.” However, at the same time, the individuality of Jesus remains established as stated in John 6:40, “For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him, may have eternal life; and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.” Although God ultimately is responsible for bringing those who are to be saved to His Son as stated in John 44:6, “No one can come to Me (Jesus), unless the Father Who sent Me draws him (or her); and I will raise him up on the last day.”  We need to remind ourselves that it is God’s heart and desire that all mankind comes to believe in His Son, Jesus and be saved through Him.  Why Jesus?  Because He gave us His life for the atonement of sin.  And due to His incredible suffering and sacrifice, He became and exists even this day as our high Priest.  The final is decision is determined by our voluntary decision in this regard.  And truly, it is the most important decision you will ever make in your life.

 

 

The outstanding discoveries that have been recently made in many scientific disciplines finally lays to rest the question of the existence of God. Simply based on the advances made in astrophysics, atheism is proven patently false. In order for God to have created our cosmos, mathematicians and astrophysicists alike have determined that God has to exist outside of our universe and be independent of it.  For example, the potter must be able to mold and craft the pottery that he makes. In doing so, he must exist outside of the pottery. If this were not the case, one can therefore believe that the clay could potentially create the pottery. We know this is impossible and most certainly it is.  Unfortunately, this is what evolution attempts to promote. Today, there is a resurgence in evolutionary and pantheistic belief systems. One such system, identified as New Age, claims to believe in God, Jesus and the spirit world.  However, they do not agree with the God of the Holy Bible that states the Trinity forms the only Godhead.  Instead, New Age claims that we are all “gods” and “christs”, which is a derivative of pantheism where all matter is god-like with its own innate wisdom, intelligence, life force, etc.  In its most simple understanding, it believes that all substance is God itself.  By the fact that God created our cosmos and all that is in it, another incredible and awesome truth becomes evident. As many other “holy books” are investigated to see if they line up with the independent creation of the cosmos and time, we find that they do not. And because they do not, they are rendered untrue due to their false claims that the universe is infinite and time eternal. In other words, all the other “holy” books of Buddhism, Hinduism, Mysticism, Confucianism, Taoism, Shintosim or any book that postulates that the universe and time are infinite and eternal (respectively) are in fact false books. These “holy” books fail to identify the extra-dimensionality of God in the creation of our cosmos and time, which is implicity needed for it to be created in the first place, as we have previously discussed. This can only be so because the men who have crafted these false “holy” books could not visualize what they could not experience, which is the phenomena of extra-dimensionality.  Only man can invent a god that describes the four dimensions he himself exists in and therefore can only perceive. Hence the only conclusion left, as so well stated by astrophysicist Dr. Hugh Ross is that , “all the other ‘holy’ books are humanly crafted frauds.” We find that these “holy” books are in direct contradiction to the only other Holy book of truth, the Holy Bible, which states that God existed prior to His creation as given in 2 Timothy 1:9, “The grace of God that we now experience was put into effect before the beginning of time.” And Titus 1:2, “The hope that we have in Jesus Christ was give us before the beginning of time.”  Additional scriptures that elucidate these claims can also be found in John 17:24, 1 Peter 1: 19,20, Hebrews 1:10, Ephesians 1:4, and Colossians 1: 16,17.  Check them out.

 

 

I was so blessed to have been introduced to Dr. Hugh Ross through a presentation he gave on the Trinity Broadcasting System back in 1992.  At that time, he presented the latest information that had recently been discovered supporting the need for a “Creator”, “Beginner” or “Divine Designer” to have brought our universe into existence as the Bible so claims. Besides what you have already read regarding the evidence and heavy burden of proof, Dr. Ross also introduced the “razors edge” design characteristics and parameters that were needed to establish not only our planet earth, but the even greater fine tuning for conditions on earth to allow life to exist as we see it today. At that time, he shared in his book, The Fingerprint of God, that there were 17 known parameters that pertained specifically to the universe being “just right” to allow earth to develop into the planet that can support life as we see it today (24).  He believed that over time, many more parameters would be discovered. I have listed the 17 parameters in the text box on the right (you may Google each parameter or search www.Reasons.org for specific descriptions for what they mean). Each of these specific parameters often need to be exact, some down to the multiple quadrillioniths of a percent. For example, according to astronomer Alan Guth, the expansion rate of the universe (#8) needs to be fine tuned to an accuracy of one part in 1055 (which looks like 1.00000..followed by 50 more zeros).(25)  The accuracy and the many parameters needed for our earth to be what it is this day is what has so many scientists in awe and wonder.  The level of specific and intricate design along with numerical constraints as just presented are so phenomenal, scientists realize that mere chance in juxtaposition with the law of entropy (the tendency for organized systems to go into disorder) could never have produced a universe such as our own or any other system for that matter. Also, realize that these parameters are specifically related to the development of the universe and what was required for it to produce a habitable planet such as earth. Incredibly, scientists have also found that there are additional parameters that are specific to the earth itself. In The Fingerprint of God, published in 1991, Dr. Ross listed a total of 20 parameters which he was aware of at the time for the existence of earth as a habitable planet. Today, the number of parameters just for the universe has increased to over 150.  If you visit the website www.Reasons.org, you will note a listing of over 150 parameters and added ones as they are discovered.  It truly is astonishing. 

 

To give you one example of how many of these parameters are so finely tuned, consider the precise number of electrons that need to exist in the universe.  Basic atomic structure typically consists of proton(s) and neutron(s) that constitute the nucleus of an atom.  Orbiting the nucleus are a specific number of electrons that form a complete atom.  Concerning the universe, unless the number of electrons is equivalent to the number of protons at an accuracy of one part in 1037 or better, electromagnetic forces in the universe would have overcome the gravitational forces so that galaxies, stars and planets would never have formed.

 

One part in 1037 is such an incredibly sensitive balance that it is hard to visualize. The following analogy might help: cover the entire North American continent (which includes all of Canada, continental America including Alaska, most of Central America and Mexico) in dimes all the way up to the Moon, a height if 239,000 miles. Next, pile dimes from these locations all the way to the moon as before, but only a million times more (again on same sized continents of North America). Paint one dime red and mix it into the total of dimes reaching to the Moon. Blindfold a friend and ask him to pick out that one red dime. The odds that he will pick the red dime out of the whole is one in 1037. And this is only one of the parameters delicately balanced to allow our solar system to develop.  Now add another 149 parameters just for the universe and well over a 1,000 other parameters that pertain specifically to our solar system and its effect on the earth, and it is no wonder astrophysicists have no aversion to believing in God any longer.  Truly, only a supernatural Creator could have orchestrated something so grand. And as we have pointed out before, it can only be the God of the Holy Bible.(26)

 

In a lecture given by Dr. Ross at the C.S. Lewis Institute in January 2012 titled “The Grand Designer”, he stated, “In terms of trying to identify the ‘Designer’ I would like to put forward a question: is the evidence for the Creator’s miraculous intervention shrinking or growing as we learn more about the cosmos? That’s the ultimate test. If it’s just the mere laws of physics (that brings forth the creation of our universe) then we would expect that the more we learn about the universe and life in the universe, the evidence for miraculous intervention would dramatically shrink and eventually disappear. But if it is the God of the Bible that’s responsible for all this design then we would expect the evidence for the Creator’s miraculous intervention would grow as we learn more and more about the universe and life in the universe.”(27)   The increase of speed that science is able to provide evidence and proof for a “Grand Designer” is on the verge of becoming astronomical, if it is not already. Dr. Ross believes that we are now at a point that every month the proof for a “Supernatural Creator” is becoming one million times stronger! Just this in itself is a miracle, the only kind which the God of heaven and earth can perform!!  As Dr. Ross so well pointed out, “If your not yet convinced that God created the heavens and the earth today, wait just another month and you’ll be given proof one million times stronger than the previous month!!!

 

This is a great and powerful witness that attests to the truth of God and His word as given in the Holy Bible that allow Christians to embrace the faith they have believed in for millennia as never before. 

 

 

The quest to find the existence of extraterrestrial life thru a planned research project was first introduced by astronomers Frank Drake and Carl Sagan by the acronym SETI, which stands for the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence back in 1984. It was based on a systematic approach using narrow radio frequency bandwidth via radio telescopes to seek radio waves that would indicate intelligent life in the cosmos besides our own. Eighteen years earlier they along with Iosif Shklovsky estimated that 0.001% of all stars could potentially have a planet capable of supporting advanced life. Stephen Hawking overall agreed with this supposition stating in his book The Grand Design that although God was involved in the creation of the physics to produce space, time and therefore, earth, you didn’t need Him from the point of the singularity and beyond. Basically, Hawking implied that God created the physics for the creation of our universe, solar system and earth but disappeared from the scene thereafter. From this premise, Hawking was able to support the theory of Darwinism which he avidly does in his book. Secondly, he pointed out that the discovery of extra-solar planets (also known as exo-planets) is proof that God was not necessarily involved in making our earth specific for the creation of life. At the time Drake and Sagan began the SETI project, most astronomers where only aware of a few parameters that placed constraints on finding a planet similar to earth. In this respect, we cannot fault them for embarking on such a mission with an anticipation of great success. In fact, it was this project that popularized astronomy to the public on a greater level than ever before, propelled in many ways by space exploration and the launching of numerous satellites to our moon and distant planets. No doubt, minds went wild over the prospect that advanced civilization(s) that could potentially be found, including my own.  It was an exciting time as “we hoped to go where no man ever had gone before.”

 

It wasn’t until 1995 that the first planet, 51 Pegasi b, was found outside our solar system that was orbiting a nuclear burning star (like our sun). Today, astronomers have discovered over 3,600 exo-planets that they believe might be candidates that could support some type of life that we see on earth. Yet, when we begin to compare these exo-planets to the extremely fine tuned characteristics of our own solar system and those of earth, we find the possibility of such exo-planets being able to support the most minimal levels of microbial life becomes more remote every passing day. For example, in 1995 astronomers had determined that there were 41 parameters that defined the design criteria of our universe and earth. In 2001, the parameter numbers had increased from 41 to 128. Then in 2009, that number increased to 676. Today, that number is well over two thousand if we take both the cosmos and the earth parameters into consideration. What does this mean? The probability of finding a life-site within the observable universe capable of sustaining the equivalent of human civilization, without invoking the intervention of a super-intelligent, supernatural Being (i.e. God), is much less than one in 10-1032.  To give some idea how infinitesimally small such a value is (it’s 0.00..add 1,029 zeros in-between and finish with..01), realize there are only 1079 protons and neutrons that constitute our entire universe, itself composed of well over 100 billion galaxies as discovered by the Hubble telescope. Therefore, for all practical purposes, you will never find a planet like earth that can even sustain life in its most simplest form, a simple microbe.(28)    

 

What does this stipulate? It gives miraculous, incontestable and persuasive proof that personal intervention on the part of a Creator has taken place not just for the origin of the universe but throughout the history of the universe, our solar system and earth. Instead of the Creator looking for a planet like earth to bring forth His creation of all living things, He specifically crafted our universe, solar system and earth for His pleasure of creating humanity in His image, which is you and I.

 

 

Following Stephen Hawking’s 1970 proof (along with Ellis and Penrose) of time having been created, many astrophysicists were in shock regarding the implications of this discovery. They realized that a “Beginner” was needed to bring both time and our cosmos into existence. As you have previously read, many astrophysicists of that day realized the profound implications of these discoveries and even wrote a number of popular level books regarding this. Stephen Hawking’s first book, A Brief Moment in Time, became the best selling popular level science book in the 20th century, selling over 10 million copies. In his book, he did assent to a “god” that brought the universe into existence. But like Einstein, he did not believe it was a personal God as spoken of in the Bible. Instead, he relegated this “god” to being more like the “god” of Spinoza in the same way Einstein did. Yet, in A Brief Moment in Time, Hawking wrote, “Many people do not like the idea that time has a beginning, probably because it smacks of divine intervention.(29) 

 

Sadly, Stephen Hawking began to backtrack in a significant way. In his second book, The Grand Designer, Stephen Hawking purposed to point out that this “god” was at best only needed for the creation of the physics which could then create our universe and time. What we see here is the actual fulfillment of the parable of the sower as given in Matthew 13:18-23.  In this parable, the seed (which is the word of God) is sown unto 4 different soil types, which relate to the heart and mind of man. All begin with acceptance of the word.  Jesus explains that out of the four soils, satan steals the word with only the last seed able to root and become fruitful.  How sad it was for one of the smartest men in the world to begin in agreement with divine intervention, only to later deny the totality of Truth His discovery gave premise towards.

 

Because, of the great realization and implications the creation of space and time meant, numerous atheist  astrophysicists began to introduce that the mechanism of quantum physics to explain how an infinite number of universes could come about, leading to the conjecture of the multiverse.  The term multiverse therefore implies that there can exist an infinite number of universes.  Because of the possibility and probability which quantum physics allows by way of infinite creative opportunities, supporters of this theory are able to skirt the need for divine design and ergo, no need for a Creator.

 

Quantum physics differs from classical physics as developed by Newton.  Quantum physics demands that energy, momentum, angular momentum, and other quantities of a bound system are restricted to discrete values. This specifically applies to objects that incorporate characteristics of both particles and waves. Without getting too technical, suffice it to say that phenomena such as light, gravity, electron orbits around the nucleus of an atom have limits to the precision with which quantities can be measured. Essentially, quantum physics attempts to best determine the probability of finding and measuring the energy and location of these dual wave-particle entities (for more detailed information on what quantum physics and quantum mechanics is all about, feel free to Google these topics at your discretion).  Basically, the creation of “multiverses” by quantum physics is that an infinite number of “anythings” can be created by the physics.  And all without the need for a Creator, hence God.      

 

To illustrate the concept of the multiverse, astrophysicist Paul Davies who we’ve mentioned before, came up with a theory that states virtual particles can pop into existence from “nothingness” through quantum tunneling. He postulates that virtual particles can be produced out of a quantum fluctuating space-time fabric, provided they are converted back into the quantum fluctuating space-time fabric before the human observer can possibly detect their appearance. This typically means that the particles so produced must disappear in less than a quintillionth (10-18) of a second. However, if we apply this logic to our universe “popping” into existence, by virtue of its size it must disappear back into quantum fluctuating space-time in less than 10-103 of a second!  Honestly Paul, how absurd!  If this is true, there is absolutely no way this cockamamie theory can be proven as there is no known device that can possibly detect let alone verify such a theory!  How sad that such a brilliant astrophysicist, who began writing about providential proof for a creator now, like Hawkins, has fallen back to untestable, “pie in the sky” theories.  We need to continue to pray for Paul Davies and others like him so they can come to the know the Truth. Thankfully, Paul Davies has at least admitted that there is “something” going on behind it all. He concluded in The Cosmic Blueprint that, “we have powerful evidence that there is something going on behind it all.”  Of course, we Christians have known for millennia that the God of the Bible is “behind it all”.(30) 

 

Dr. Hugh Ross believes that these highly speculative theories are being proposed simply to counter the valid and absolute proof God has provided for His being.   It is a way for man to continue believing a lie, which will truly have tragic results in the end for the individual.

 

No doubt, the multiverse concept is highly speculative. What has provided so much fuel to this speculative “fire” is the “marketing” platform provided by the secular media and teaching/education complex. As it has been since the days of the invention of the printing press, certain power groups have been able to dominate the public square to a much greater degree of influence and power than others. It appears these powers are becoming more fanatical and fantastical every passing day. Sadly, we see and hear of the works of non-theists (i.e. atheists) being promoted as never before all while the latest Biblical evidence is being ignored or at best, placed on the back shelf of an old dusty library. Similarly, if evidence is discovered to give validity to the God of the Bible, more than likely you will never see, read or hear about it from the mainstream press. Included within this spectra is the huge entertainment industry that plays on young developing minds with science fiction and other modalities of influence (i.e. brainwashing). Yet, when was the last time you heard of the recent ground breaking astronomical work of Arvind Borde and Alexander Velinkin who are known atheists. Together, they spent ten years of research with the specific goal to refute a cosmic beginning orchestrated by a Beginner/Creator.  However, all the models they attempted to use to prove their point would not allow it. Finally, Borde and Velinkin demonstrated (obligingly no doubt) that regardless of the universe’s homogeneity, uniformity, isotropy or lack thereof, and regardless of the universe’s energy conditions or what kind of inflation event the universe experienced (including the “Big Bang”), they concluded that the universe must have had a beginning. As Vilenkin admitted in a subsequent book, “With the proof now in place, cosmologists can no longer hide behind the possibility of a past eternal universe. There is no escape, they have to face the problem of a cosmic beginning.”(31)  Isn’t this just amazing?  World class astrophysicists whose main goal is to disprove the God of our universe as being the only Creator of it are upended in their search and finally find themselves proving and promoting that the cosmos had a beginning. Without saying so, they certainly inferred it’s beginning had to come through a “Beginner”. Hallelujah! We pray they will see “their” Creator more clearly and come to know the saving Truth of Jesus Christ.

 

I would like to mention that I do believe in a very limited form of a multiverse. This form only allows four separate and distinct universes. These four universes are: heaven, hell, the second heaven and the physical universe where our earth dwells. Three of these universes; heaven, hell and the second heaven exist in other dimensional states than our own cosmos. No doubt, these dimensional states are best defined as spiritual dimensions. The second heaven applies to the spiritual atmosphere around our earth where demonic activity takes place as noted in the Bible. For example, the Apostle Paul states in Ephesians 2:2, “in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience”. This scripture indicates that within earth’s physical atmosphere there is a spiritual power dimension controlled by Satan as conveyed by his demonic horde. Insofar as infinite universes that exist in the similar four dimensions we live, I do not personally believe they exist. However, I submit to you that this is only my opinion.  Time will tell if such a universe or universes will ever be discovered.  One thing for sure, as of the time of this writing we know of no such universe that can be proven or exhibited.  

 

As we have just read about the incredible breakthroughs made in cosmological research thus far, it was the ultimate grace of the Lord that allowed me to apprehend the other proofs and discoveries that are part and parcel to this book. When the Lord had me write this book early on, the material contained in the chapter “Creation of Space and Time” was for me the most weighty and profound evidence for the existence of God. The other material He provided for this book only further validated His reality in exponential ways. As you may have read the chapter in my testimony, the Lord had now completely and thoroughly answered my question that I posed to Him years earlier, “Why was there such scant evidence of Your existence”. With the abundance of such incredible proof, given in such resoluteness and in such a persuasive manner, I cannot help wonder how there could possibly exist any atheist today if they were apprised of all this information. Certainly, as stated earlier, a majority of astrophysicists and astronomers have come to this sober and wonderful realization. Yet, there still exists a minority that we hear of who simply do not wish to accept this amazing evidence for what it is.  Their goal to explain away God’s miraculous creation of the universe and the life found on earth is most certainly bent on coming up with more “out of this world theories” than ever before. 

 

 

It almost seems like a dream come true.  For millennia, men and women have sought evidence and proof for the existence and demonstration of God in their lives, whether primarily for informational purposes (i.e. knowledge) or on a personal level for intervention in their lives (i.e. comfort from a loss, need for physical and/or emotional healing or simply to find purpose in life). Today, the Lord God through His bountiful mercy and grace has answered the requests of both unbelievers and believers alike in many ways. For unbelievers, the latest composite of evidence and proof as given in this chapter and throughout the book is the answer for what they have sought. Although mankind is ultimately never without excuse as noted by Paul in Romans 1: 19-20, “because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.”  I believe this word of God is especially true today as God has revealed more of His “invisible attributes” as never before, with much of it is coming through His creative capacity as shown to astronomers, cosmologists and the like. It seems He is making a plea for all mankind to come to Him through this wonderful evidence, proof and truth.   

 

Dr. Hugh Ross believes that God is being especially gracious in revealing His attributes relative to His creation due to the level of resistance to His truth. Where resistance is relatively low, less hard evidence for the God of the Bible is necessary to overcome it. But where resistance, namely arrogance and intellectualism is high, so also is the quantity and quality of evidence He provides to overcome it.  Let’s consider our world today. We have the most wealth, the most discretionary time, the most education and the most technology of any previous generation. And how do we respond to these blessings? The loudest voices say that we humans deserve all the credit. The loudest voices say that humanity is deity (especially of our own culture). Given such arrogance, no wonder evidences are being flooded upon us.(32)

 

However, I cannot help being concerned with God’s warning to those who continue to reject the abundance of His mercy by providing such overwhelming evidence and proof of His existence. As noted in the previous paragraph, in the last sentence of Romans 1:20, Paul states that all humankind has been shown the attributes of God. It specifically warns those who reject these truths and evidence “are without excuse”. And what is the consequence of such rejection? Romans 1: 18 tells us, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men (and this includes women), who suppress the truth in unrighteousness”. This is a serious warning.

 

And yet God in His infinite wisdom and love for this world, knowing how the heart and soul of mankind can so easily turn to ungodliness and unrighteousness, has given us His only Son because of His intense love for His creation (John 2:18). Remember, we are created in His image. I am convinced that He sees each one of us as part of His family when we are newly created at birth.  But after the age of accountability arrives (Jewish custom establishes this at the age of 12) we need to come to a personal conviction of accepting or rejecting His offer of life. If we reject our Father and consequently His son Jesus, Who art in heaven, than we make the free will choice not to be part of the family. The consequences will be eternally damning as the Holy Bible so states. Yet, as the great late evangelist Billy Graham has explained, the steps to peace with God begins with realizing that our sins separate us from Him. And the ultimate and final solution to sin is the good news of the Gospel which is Jesus coming to this world to forgive us of our sins. But it is a personal choice for every human to accept Him as our sin-bearer so we can be forgiven and pardoned of our sin. And when we do, God the Father sees us in Christ’s righteousness that has been conferred to us by His wonderful Son.  What a Gift!

 

Yes, the truth of the Gospel is not always easy to apprehend. Yet, it really is a simple message. But it isn’t an easy message to receive and accept due to the nature of its treasure. Jesus said in Matthew 13: 45-46, “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.” However, the one who buys it from the owner is instructed that he must, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.” That pearl is Jesus. He is the gate to the kingdom of heaven. For those who wish to believe in eternal life as it exists in heaven, Peter the Disciple of Jesus said in Acts 4: 12, “Nor is there salvation in any other (idol, false god, no God, etc.) for there is no other name (Jesus) under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” This is confirmed by Jesus who is quoted in John 14: 6, “And Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” 

 

Recently I commented to my wife how it appears that the levels of darkness (of evil works) are increasing as never before, especially in the western world. We also have noted numerous reports that that the growth of Christianity is waning, not only in new believers coming to Christ, but a great many walking away from the faith, especially young adults who attend college. This is especially grievous to hear as the proof and evidence for God, the Son and the Holy Spirit are increasing in ways never before seen. I realize that much of the battle for our souls is dealt with in the spiritual realm and that all the evidence given or proof may not overcome this battle. Often, it may take the prayers of others and circumstances that go beyond the control of our lives. I’m convinced that humbling ourselves to the kingship of pride and arrogance is often a powerful catalyst to help us overcome this resistance.  Nonetheless, I do consider the evidence presented a great tool in helping to overcome the mind’s tendency towards disbelief. It is my sincere hope that if you are a believer, the material you have read in The Amazing Evidence will give you greater faith to keep walking in His footsteps.  And if it has, I hope this material will be useful to you in convincing an unbelieving world that Jesus in the only way, truth and life for every living soul. On the other hand, if you are a non-believer I pray your mind and heart will be convinced that Jesus is Who He says He is so you can truly experience a life that promises not only eternal life, but abundant life here on earth as well.  Again, to put this in proper perspective, our life on this earth is but a microcosm of time compared to the eternity that Jesus offers. And based on the wonders of heaven and the out of this world beauty and phenomenal environment that exists there, do you really want to miss this? I hope not.
